Who is Marilee Ford?
Hi. Welcome to my BLOG! Marilee Ford is my name. I am an evolving artist living in Petaluma, CA. The blog is my first attempt at having a current posting on the web…I will share my latest paintings with you all, and hope that they brighten your day! Please contact me if you have any questions about them, or are interested in purchasing one (or two or more!). By the way, the title painting is a portion of “What a Ride!”, a painting of Hawaiian surfers…and what ride it is! Blessings to you and be creative today, it heals our world!
Briefly, my background…I am an RN with background in OB and Hospice Nursing. In 1995, I returned to school to follow a passion…art. I earned an MA from JFK University in Transformative Art. Simply put, Transformative Art focuses on the use of art for personal and cultural transformation. I have developed my career in this arena through teaching at various hospitals in my area, and through becoming adjunct faculty at Dominican University where I teach in the undergraduate, as well as in the MSN Integrated Health Practices program. One of the classes I teach to graduate level nurses is the use of creative arts for healing. I have taught similar classes for many years in the community of Petaluma and in Chester, CA.
I have trained under watercolor artist Susan Cornelis, and taken workshops from well-know artists Jeanne Carbonetti, gail McDaniel and others. I try to attend a long workshop at least once a year to hone my skills and stretch my painting muscles. Please see my artist statement on this blog for more about my perspective on the artistic process.
My work can currently be seen at the Riverfront Art Gallery in downtown Petaluma. I am also scheduled for a show at Plaza Arts Center in Healdsburg for June 2009, and for a show at Plumas Art Council Gallery also in 2009. I have won numerous awards at local art exhibitions, including most recently Honorable Mention at the 2009 WASCO Aqua Areas.
If you are ever interested in viewing art for puchase, please contact me through this blog and I will do my best to accomodate you. Thank you for visiting my blog.
